What is dubstep?

In its simplest form, dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that combines elements of 2-step garage, dub, and techno. The music is typified by looping rhythms, heavy basslines, and stutters or ‘drops’. Although the genre was originally developed in the UK, it has since spread to other countries including the United States.
