Come see the world’s most popular musical, The Sound of Music, at the Harrison Opera House!

Introduction

The Sound of Music is a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical based on the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp. It tells the story of Maria, a governess who is hired to take care of the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp.

The Harrison Opera House is excited to announce that The Sound of Music will be coming to Norfolk, Virginia! The show will be running from October 31st- November 5th, and tickets are now on sale.

This will be a brand new production of The Sound of Music, and it will be directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien. The show will feature a live orchestra, and it will be performed in English with projected supertitles.

The Harrison Opera House is still a state-of-the-art facility, presenting opera, ballet, and orchestra performances, as well as Broadway shows, family events, lectures, and film screenings. The doors are open to the public 365 days a year, and there is always something going on.

The Opera House underwent a multimillion dollar renovation in the early 2000s, and today it is better than ever. The acoustics have been vastly improved, and the seats are more comfortable than ever. The Harrison Opera House is truly a place for everyone to enjoy.

The Opera House in the Past

The Harrison Opera House has been a staple in the Norfolk, Virginia community since before the Civil War. The Harrison Opera House continued to be a popular gathering place for citizens of Norfolk until it closed its doors in 1997.
