In this blog post, we will be discussing five different styles of pop music. We will also be giving a brief overview of each style.

Introduction

Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form in the United States and United Kingdom during the mid-1950s. The terms “popular music” and “pop music” are often used interchangeably, although the former describes all music that is popular and includes many diverse styles. Pop music is eclectic, and often borrows elements from other styles such as urban, dance, rock, Latin, and country. Identifying factors include generally short to medium-length songs written in a format that is easy to sing along to and often produced by professional songwriters and producers with a focus on easily marketable melodies. Pop music has been dominated by the American record industry since the 1920s.

Bubblegum Pop

Bubblegum pop (also known as bubble pop) is a subgenre of pop music with an upbeat sound that is centered around themes intended to appeal to pre-teens and young adolescents. The genre typically features simple, catchy hooks and lyrics that are easy to remember. Bubblegum pop songs are often produced in a simple, polished style that eschews the more complex production elements of other pop genres.

Bubblegum pop first emerged in the late 1960s with songs like “The Ballad of Jonathan Joich”, “Yummy Yummy Yummy” and “Good Morning Starshine”. The genre reached its height of popularity in the 1970s with hits like “I Wanna Be With You” by the Partridge Family, “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany, and “How Do You Do?” by Mouth & MacNeal. Bubblegum pop fell out of favor in the 1980s as other pop genres came to the forefront, but it has experienced a resurgence in recent years with hits like “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor and “I Love It” byIcona Pop featuring Charli XCX.

Boy Band Pop

Boy band pop is a style of pop music that is produced by a group of male singers who are marketed as being attractive to preteen and teenage girls. The music is generally light and catchy, and the performers often dance synchronically. Groups such as One Direction, The Wanted, and Big Time Rush are examples of boy band pop groups.

Girl Group Pop

Girl group pop is a style of pop music that is performed by female vocalists. The girl group typically consists of three to five singers who sing in harmony with each other. Girl group pop is often characterized by its catchy melodies, simple harmonies, and catchy hooks. The lyrics of girl group pop songs often center around themes such as love, friendship, and relationships. Girl group pop first gained popularity in the 1950s with groups such as the Chordettes and the Andrews Sisters. In the 1960s, girl groups such as the Ronettes and the Supremes became global sensations with their string of hits. Girl group pop has continued to be popular in subsequent decades with groups such as Destiny’s Child, the Spice Girls, and Little Mix achieving massive success.

Hip-Hop Pop

Hip-Hop Pop is a style ofPop music that is influenced by Hip-Hop. It typically has a strong drums and percussion instruments with a lot of “beats” that you can dance to. The lyrics are often about personal topics such as love, heartbreak, and partying. Some well-known artists who perform Hip-Hop Pop include Drake, Cardi B, and Beyonce.
