“House Music”

“House music” is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) that originated in Chicago in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized by DJs who played a mix of disco, electronic and soul music at nightclubs and dance clubs. House music quickly became popular in other parts of the United States and Europe, and by the late 1980s, it had become the dominant form of EDM.

The term “house music” is derived from the name of one of the first Chicago clubs to play this style of music, The Warehouse. House music is characterized by a four-on-the-floor drumbeat, repetitive basslines, synthesizer riffs, and effects. It often features samples from disco and soul songs. House music tracks typically range from 120 to 140 beats per minute (BPM).

The genre has been influential on subsequent genres of electronic dance music, including techno, trance, breakbeat and drum and bass. House music has also been influenced by other genres such as hip hop, disco and rock.
