The Competition

The UCA Hip Hop Dance Competition is an annual event that attracts dancers from all over the country. The competition is divided into two categories: college and high school. The college category is further divided into two divisions: Division I and Division II. In order to compete in the college division, dancers must be currently enrolled in a college or university. In order to compete in the high school division, dancers must be currently enrolled in high school.

The competition is open to both soloists and groups. Groups can be comprised of anywhere from 2-20 dancers. All groups must have at least one choreographer who is a member of the group. Soloists can compete in either the college or high school division, but they will not be eligible for any of the group awards.

Each performance must be between 1 and 2 minutes long. There is no limit on the number of performers per routine, but each routine must have at least one choreographer who is a member of the group. Routines may include props, but they may not exceed 4 minutes in length.

Only music that is appropriate for a family audience will be allowed. This includes music with profanity, sexually explicit lyrics, or offensive subject matter. Dancers are expected to dress appropriately for a family audience as well. Costumes should not be revealing or offensive in any way.
