“Uptown Funk” is a song by British record producer Mark Ronson from his fourth studio album, Uptown Special (2015), featuring American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars. The song was released as the album’s lead single on 10 November 2014 in the United States. Inspired by 1970s funk music, “Uptown Funk” achieved commercial success worldwide, topping the charts in 20 countries including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It earned Ronson the 2015 Brit Award for British Single of the Year.

The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for 14 consecutive weeks, becoming both Ronson’s and Mars’ longest-running US number-one single. The song won two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. “Uptown Funk” also won a Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording Non-Classical.”Uptown Funk” was ranked sixth on Billboard magazine’s Year-End Hot 100 list for 2015.

About the Artist

Bruno Mars is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, multi-instrumentalist, and dancer. He is known for his stage performances, retro showmanship, and for performing in a wide range of musical styles, including pop, R&B, funk, soul, reggae, hip hop, and rock. Mars has sold over 130 million records worldwide making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has won numerous awards, including eleven Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, three Guinness World Records, and was named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2011. In December 2013, he ranked number one on the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians as Peter Gene Hernandez Jr., Bruno Mars began making music at a young age. He performed in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his childhood. He graduated from high school and then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a musical career. In 2010 he achieved commercial success with the release of the single “Nothin’ on You”, which peaked at number one in several countries worldwide; the song’s success led to his signing with Atlantic Records later that year. His debut studio album Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010) peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States; it also peaked at number two in Canada and topped the charts in several countries worldwide. The album’s second single “Grenade” reached number one on both the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and Pop Songs chart; “Grenade” was nominated for Record of the Year at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards held in February 2012. His second album Unorthodox Jukebox (2012) peaked at number one on both Billboard 200 albums chart as well as digital albums chart; its lead single “Locked Out of Heaven” topped Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for six consecutive weeks and won Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at 56th Annual Grammy Awards held in January 2014.
