Introduction

At last, viola players can keep up with the band with this collection of popular hits! All arranging and transcribing for this project was done by violist Diego Villa, who holds a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

This book includes many of today’s hottest hits, such as “All of Me” by John Legend, “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic, “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk, “Let Her Go” by Passenger, “Royals” by Lorde, and many more. Each song has been carefully arranged for viola solo with piano accompaniment. The accompanying CD features recordings of each song performed by Violinist Diego Villa.

What is Viola Sheet Music?

Viola sheet music is music written specifically for the viola, a string instrument that is similar to the violin but with a lower pitch. The viola is often used as a harmony instrument in orchestras and other ensembles, so viola sheet music may feature Piano accompaniment or parts for other instruments such as the violin, cello, or bass.

How to Read Viola Sheet Music

Viola sheet music is written inTreble Clef . The Treble Clef notates the higher register of music, so if you are sight reading or looking at a piece of viola sheet music for the first time, look to the left-hand side of the musical staffs. Ledger lines may be added above or below the staffs to accommodate notes that fall outside of the range of a single clef. In viola music, these ledger lines are very common.

When you see two notes connected by a vertical line, this is called a stem. The stem can point either up or down, depending on which note is higher. If both notes have stems going in opposite directions, they are part of what is called a beam. Beaming together shorter notes helps improve the readability of viola sheet music.

At the beginning of each measure, you will see a clef symbol followed by a time signature. The time signature tells you how many beats are in each measure and what kind of note receives one beat. This information will help you keep time while you are playing your viola piece.

In addition to standard notation, there are also many symbols that provide instruction on how to play the piece or what specific techniques to use. These markings are usually placed above or below the current measure being played. Instructions on dynamics (how loud or soft to play), tempo (how fast or slow to play), and bowing (which direction to draw your bow across the strings) are just a few examples of the types of symbols that may be used.
