The country music world is mourning the death of one of its own. On Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, it was announced that singer Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry died in a helicopter crash. He was 50 years old.

The news was first reported by the Associated Press, and later confirmed by a statement from the duo’s label, Big Machine Label Group. “It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00pm today in Medford, New Jersey,” the statement read. “The duo was scheduled to perform this evening at the Flying W Airport & Resort in Medford.”

Gentry is survived by his wife Angie and their two children — daughter Kaylee and son Kali. He also has a daughter named Taylor from a previous marriage.
