In 1994, Soundgarden peaked commercially with its fourth studio album Superunknown, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for nine Grammy Awards including Album of the Year. It yielded successful singles “Spoonman”, “Fell on Black Days”, “Black Hole Sun”, “My Wave”, and “The Day I Tried to Live”. Down on the Upside (1996) followed that album’s success but was overshadowed by problems within the band during its making.
