While the Lloyd Webber/Boublil team had written the book and lyrics for Love Never Dies, the show’s composer was initially undecided. It was not until 2007, after several delays in the project’s development, that Lloyd Webber chose to step in and take on the musical composition duties as well.

This resulted in a change of direction for the project, with Lloyd Webber crafting a score that would be more integrated with the feel of his previous works, such as The Phantom of the Opera and Sunset Boulevard. Most significantly, this meant that Love Never Dies would feature much more of an operatic style than was originally envisioned.
