His father Mel played the clarinet and his mother Audrey was a former singer and still teaches singing lessons from their home in Encino. Dave has a brother Jeff who is also a musician and a sister Merrilee. Jeff introduced Dave to the saxophone when he was eight years old. Dave took lessons for about two years before motion sickness caused him to stop playing for a time. Interested in musical theater at an early age (his first role being the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz at age 10), Koz auditioned unsuccessfully for multiple shows while in high school before finally landing the lead role of Teen Angel in the musical Grease while still a senior at Grant High School in Van Nuys.

Brian Culbertson

Brian Culbertson is an American contemporary jazz and R&B musician. He was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended DePaul University. He currently resides in Hollywood, California.

Culbertson has released nineteen albums, both independently and through record labels such as Verve, Atlantic, Motown, and GRP. His album Bringing Back the Funk was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007. In addition to playing the piano, he also plays the trombone, drums, bass guitar, euphonium, and trumpet. Chris Botti is an American smooth jazz trumpeter. He has recorded and performed with many high-profile musicians, including Sting, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Bublé, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Lucia Micarelli and John Mayer. In 2004 and 2006–2007 he served as a member of the house band for NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Botti’s latest album Impressions (2012), won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album in 2013. Botti was born in Portland and grew up in Corvallis, Oregon.
