The past year has seen an amazing Amount of good music released in the genre of Electronic Dance Music. 2008 was a great year for music, full of great new talents and old favorites. This is a list of what I believe to be the best Electronic Dance Music albums of 2008.

1. M83 – Saturdays = Youth
M83’s fourth album is French musician Anthony Gonzalez’s best album to date. This record is a gorgeous conjunction of new wave and shoegaze with Gonzalez’s signature synth work and catchy hooks. Saturdays = Youth is an incredibly rewarding listen from start to finish, and is easily one of the best records this year.

2. Cut Copy – In Ghost Colors
Cut Copy’s follow-up to their 2004 debut Bright Like Neon Love does not disappoint. In Ghost Colors expands on the band’s sound, adding more layers and textures to their songs. The result is an even catchier and more danceable record that should please any fan of good dance music.

3. Justice – †
Justice’s debut was one of the most talked about albums of 2007, and for good reason – it was a brilliant piece of work that perfectly blended danceable rhythms with heavy metal guitars. † continues in this vein, but with more focus on the songwriting and less on the pure sonic assault. The result is an even better album that should not be missed by any fan of Electronic Dance Music.

4. LCD Soundsystem – Sound of Silver
LCD Soundsystem’s second album sees the band moving away from their more dance-oriented sounds in favor of a more guitar-based direction. The result is an incredibly catchy and well-written record that stands as one of the best albums released this year.
