Latin Billboard Music Awards 2016: The Best and the Worst
The Latin Billboard Music Awards 2016 were filled with memorable moments. Here are some of the best and worst looks of the night.
The Best
The Latin Billboard Music Awards are always a night to remember. The awards show is a celebration of the best and brightest Latin musicians in the industry. This year, the show did not disappoint. The Latin Billboard Music Awards 2016 featured amazing performances, touching speeches, and hilarious moments. Let’s take a look at the best moments of the night.
Shakira
If there’s anyone that knows how to put on a good show, it’s Shakira. The Colombian singer took the stage at the Latin Billboard Music Awards on Thursday night (April 28) and did not disappoint.
Wearing a sequined nude bodysuit and matching thigh-high boots, Shakira opened her performance with a sultry dance routine that included plenty of hip shaking and booty popping. The singer then went on to perform her new single, “La La La (Brazil 2014),” which she recorded for the FIFA World Cup.
Shakira’s final outfit change of the night was a red hot gown that had everyone talking. The form-fitting dress showed off her famous curves, and the slit up the middle gave us a glimpse of her enviable legs.
Ricky Martin
Ricky Martin was one of the best dressed celebrities at the Latin Billboard Music Awards 2016. The superstar looked dapper in a black and white tuxedo as he accepted the award for “ Latin Artist of the Year.”
J. Balvin
J. Balvin was one of the big winners at the Latin Billboard Music Awards, taking home four awards, including Top Latin Artist of the Year. He also won awards for Top Latin Album of the Year, Top Latin Song of the Year, and Top Streaming Song of the Year.
The Worst
It was a night to remember at the Latin Billboard Music Awards 2016! Some of the biggest names in music came together to celebrate Latin music, but not everyone was a winner. Let’s take a look at the best and worst moments of the night.
Farruko
It’s been a while since a reggaetonero has shown up on a red carpet looking as stylish as Farruko did at the Latin Billboard Music Awards. His black Gucci tuxedo with white lapels was perfectly tailored, and he accessorized with diamond earrings and a thick gold chain. But the real star of his look was his freshly shaved head, which gave him an ultra-modern edge.
Calle 13
The group Calle 13 won the award for best Latin rock, alternative or urban album for their album Multi_Viral, but their political statements during their acceptance speech definitely put them on our list of the worst moments from the night. First off, they decided to take a jab at Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan by saying, “We’re going to make America culturally great again.” But it was their next statement that had the audience gasping. Here’s what they said:
“Donald Trump is a bigot who has insulted Mexicans, insulted Muslims, insulted women and we are not going to let him get away with it.”
This prompted boos from the audience, which only got louder when they went on to say that they hoped Trump would be defeated in the upcoming election.
Ozuna
Ozuna was one of the worst performers of the night, and his auto-tune heavy performance of ‘Dile Que Tu Me Quieres’ was not well received by fans or critics.
