We Will Rock You: The Musical is a rock musical based on the songs of British rock band Queen with a book by Ben Elton. The musical tells the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion, and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same.
The musical includes Queen’s most popular hits, We Are the Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody to Love, Another One Bites The Dust, Killer Queen, Radio Ga Ga, I Want It All and Tie Your Mother Down.
The Story
The show is based on the songs of British rock band Queen with a book by Ben Elton. The musical tells the story of a group of Bohemians who fight to restore freedom to their oppressed homeland, overthrowing the powerful tyrannical Formans.
The Characters

-Galileo Figaro: A student at the Brighton Rock School of Music, he is the show’s lead guitarist and singer. He is rebellious and doesn’t care what others think of him. He falls in love with Scaramouche, but their relationship is rocky.
-Brian May: The headmaster of the Brighton Rock School of Music and a former rock star. He is an old-fashioned man who doesn’t understand why Galileo is so rebellious.
-Scaramouche: A student at the Brighton Rock School of Music. She is a punk rocker who is unafraid to speak her mind. She falls in love with Galileo, but their relationship is rocky.
-Freddie Mercury: The lead singer of the rock band Queen. He appears in a vision to Galileo, telling him to follow his heart.
-Killer Queen: The evil ruler of the future world where the musical takes place. She wants everyone to be like her and conform to her ways.
The Music
The music of We Will Rock You was written by British rock band Queen with additional contributions from Brian May. The musical is a tribute to the band’s music and their approach to songwriting. The score includes Queen hits such as “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You”, “We Are the Champions”, “Somebody to Love”, “Killer Queen”, and “Don’t Stop Me Now”.

The Set
The set is sparse, as are the props. The entire show takes place on a bare stage with a few pieces of furniture and some rock-themed set pieces that are brought on and off stage as needed. This minimalistic approach allows the focus to remain on the music and the performers.
The Costumes
In the musical, the fashion and style is just as important as the music itself. The show includes many different types of looks, from streetwear to club attire to full-on costume. Each outfit is specifically chosen to help tell the story and create the desired tone for each scene.
The costume designer for We Will Rock You: The Musical is Mindy Le Brock. Mindy has worked in theatre, opera, film, and television. Some of her previous credits include A Clockwork Orange, Romeo + Juliet, Guys and Dolls, and Miss Saigon.
For We Will Rock You: The Musical, Mindy was tasked with creating a costuming that would reflect the time period of the show while also being timeless and visually interesting. The result is a unique mash-up of styles that are both eye-catching and appropriate for the characters.
Some of the standout pieces from the show include:
-The “Bohemian Rhapsody” dress, which is made out of black chiffon and has a tiered skirt with a train.
-The “We Will Rock You” costume, which is made out of black leather and features studded shoulder pads.
-The “Somebody to Love” costume, which is a white dress with a voluminous skirt and billowing sleeves.

While most musicals have a choreographer listed in the credits, this production of We Will Rock You: The Musical has no choreographer credited. Instead, the direction and movements were developed by the ensemble cast under the guidance of director Ben Elton. The cast had to work hard to create a unique and electrifying show that would do justice to the music of Queen.
The Lighting
The lighting for We Will Rock You: The Musical was designed by Tim Lutkin and Rob Halliday. It is operated by Nick Whitehouse. The lighting plot comprises 90 moving lights, 4 followspots and over 500 PAR cans. The plot is controlled from an Avo desk located at FOH.
The Sound
The sound of We Will Rock You is incredible. It is a mix of classic Queen songs and new material, all performed with the live energy and enthusiasm that made Queen one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
