Texas

When it comes to folk music, Texas has a long and rich history. In recent years, the state has also become home to a number of excellent singer-songwriters and Americana artists. Here are some of our favorites:

-The Dixie Chicks: One of the most successful country bands of all time, the Dixie Chicks got their start in Texas. Their blend of country and pop made them huge crossover stars, and they’re still going strong today.
-Willie Nelson: A true icon of American music, Willie Nelson is one of the most influential figures in country music history. His simple but effective songwriting style has influenced countless artists over the years.
-George Strait: Another giant of the Texas country scene, George Strait is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. His traditional sound has won him a huge following among country fans.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma is another state with a strong folk tradition. The state is home to a number of different Native American tribes, which have contributed to its musical heritage. New Hampshire: Boston Common Coffeehouse – This historic coffeehouse has been a staple of the Boston folk scene for decades. Drawn by its warm atmosphere and excellent acoustics, many famous performers have graced its stage, including Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Phil Ochs. If you’re in town on a Wednesday night, be sure to catch one of the weekly open mic nights!

Vermont: Sudbury Farmstead Folk Music Series – This summer concert series takes place on a working dairy farm in central Vermont.
