The band experienced several lineup changes throughout its existence; Cornell left in 1997 and was replaced by Audioslave’s lead singer, Phil Anselmo. Original vocalist Mark Arm transitioned to guitarist due to a serious back injury and was replaced by Guy Maddison in 1990. Since 1990, the band has consisted of Arm on vocals/guitar, Turner on guitar/backing vocals, Lukin on bass/backing vocals, and Mark Petroleum (formerly of Bundle of Hiss) on drums.

The band released its debut album, Ten, in 1991. Achieving widespread popularity with the singles “Alive”, “Even Flow”, and “Jeremy”, the album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
