How to Create a Colorful Music Grunge Background: A grunge style music background with colorful splatters.

Materials

You will need the following: Photoshop, a stock image of a musical note, and a grunge brush pack.

Canvas or thick paper

In order to create a grunge background, you will need a canvas or thick paper. You can also use other materials such as cardboard, but this will not be as sturdy. The background should be a light color so that the colors you add will stand out. You can also add texture to the background by using a textured paper or by adding a layer of gesso before painting.

Paints in various colors

For this project you will need the following materials:
-Paints in various colors (acrylic paint works well)
-A canvas or other painting surface
-Paper towels or rags
-Water
-A spray bottle (optional)
-A hairdryer (optional)

A black Sharpie

A black Sharpie is one of the most versatile drawing tools you can have. With its fine tip, you can create thin, precise lines. You can also use the side of the tip to make thicker lines.

A white Sharpie

You’ll also need a white Sharpie for this project. Be sure to use a fine point Sharpie so that you can create thin lines with your design. If you don’t have a white Sharpie, you can use any other color of Sharpie, but the color of your design will be slightly different.

Instructions

Start with a new layer in your image editing program. If you are using Photoshop, you can create a new layer by going to the Layer > New > Layer menu item. Name this layer “noise.”

Paint your canvas or paper in a light color.

Choose a light color that you want to be the dominant color in your final piece. This will be the undertone for the entire background. Paint your entire surface with this light color. You can use a brush or a spray paint can for an even coat. If you are using more than one color, make sure to paint each section with the lightest color first before moving on to a darker shade.

Once the first layer is dry, start painting in your darkest colors. Use a similar technique as before, painting in large areas or spraying on a thin layer everywhere. Work in small sections so that the paint doesn’t have a chance to dry before you move on.

Once you have your darkest colors down, it’s time to start layering on the mids. Using a different color for each midtone will give your background more visual interest and depth. Paint these colors on in the same way as before, working in small sections and building up the intensity of the color until you reach your desired look.

Finish off by adding in any final details or accent colors. This could be anything from tiny stars or dots to larger areas of color that help tie everything together. Allow your background to dry completely before framing or using it in any other project.

Once the paint is dry, use the black Sharpie to draw a simple design on the surface.

1. Begin by painting your paper with a layer of white gesso. This will help the colors to pop and will provide a good surface for the paint to adhere to.

2. Once the gesso is dry, start adding color to your background. You can use any combination of colors that you like – just be sure to work in thin layers so that the colors don’t get muddy.

3. Once you’re happy with the color, set the paper aside to dry completely.

4. Once the paint is dry, use the black Sharpie to draw a simple design on the surface. You can go for a geometric look or simply draw some squiggly lines – it’s up to you!

5. To finish, add some highlights with a white gel pen or a white Sharpie. Allow everything to dry completely before framing or displaying your artwork.

Use the various colors of paint to fill in the design.

Start by sketching out your design on the cardboard with a pencil. Once you have your design, start filling it in with the various colors of paint. You can either use a paintbrush or a sponge brush to apply the paint. Be sure to experiment with different techniques to create interesting effects.

Once you have finished filling in your design, let the paint dry completely. Once the paint is dry, you can add any final touches with markers or other mediums. When you are finished, your music grunge background is complete!

Once the paint is dry, use the white Sharpie to add highlights to the design.

1. Start with a light color such as yellow or light blue. Paint a base layer on the poster board. Allow the paint to dry completely.

2. Choose three or four other colors that will work well together. Paint random strokes of color over the base layer.Allow the paint to dry completely.

3. Use the white Sharpie to add highlights to the design. Add dots, stars, or whatever design you like. Allow the Sharpie to dry completely before displaying your artwork.
