The Birth of the Blue Angel
The Blue Angel Music label was born out of a love for the blues. It all started in the late 1990’s when two friends, Jeff Greenberg and Mike Savitsky, were working in the music industry in Los Angeles. They shared a passion for the blues and decided to start their own record label. The first release on Blue Angel Music was a CD by Southern California-based blues artist, Andre Williams. The CD was entitled “Blues on the Bay” and it featured 12 original songs written by Andre and performed by a who’s who of LA-based session musicians. The CD was well-received and led to Jeff and Mike signing other artists to the label, including Webb Wilder, Tommy Castro, Elvin Bishop, Anson Funderburgh, Ronnie Earl, and others.
The Blue Angel Music Scene
The Blue Angel Music scene is one of the most vibrant and eclectic in New Orleans. With a wide range of genres represented, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Blue Angel Music scene is particularly well known for its blues music.
The Blues on the Bay festival is one of the highlights of the year, and features some of the best blues musicians from around the country. If you’re looking to experience the best of what the Blue Angel Music scene has to offer, this is definitely the event for you.

The Blue Angel Today
The Blue Angel Music: Blues on the Bay program is an initiative of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners and is managed by the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division. The program is now in its sixth season and has become a signature cultural event for St. Johns County, showcasing a diverse array of world-renowned blues musicians in an intimate setting on the waterfront at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.
Since its inception, the Blue Angel Music: Blues on the Bay concert series has featured such celebrated blues artists as Buddy Guy, Irma Thomas, Jon Cleary, Marcus Miller, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Shemekia Copeland, Taj Mahal, Trombone Shorty, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Cyril Neville, Widespread Panic and many others.
