The Best Music of 2020

As we close out 2020, Paste is taking a look at the best music of the year. This isn’t a list of the year’s “best” albums in the sense that each of these projects is perfect, but they all made an impact on us in one way or another, for better or for worse. This year has been difficult for everyone, and music has been one of the things that has helped us get through it. For that reason, we’ve decided to focus on albums that brought us joy, made us think, or simply helped us escape from the chaos of the world for a little while.

We’ve also decided to mix things up a bit this year and do something a little different with our list. In previous years, we’ve focused on specific genres, but this year we’re opening things up and including a wider variety of music. You’ll still find plenty of indie rock, alternative, metal, punk and hip-hop on this list, but we’ve also included some pop, R&B, country and folk albums as well. We want this to be a reflection of the diverse range of music that our staff has been listening to over the past 12 months, and we hope you find something new to love here.

So without further ado, here are Paste’s 50 favorite albums of 2020.
