M.I.A.

M.I.A. (Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam) is a Sri Lankan hip hop artist, rapper, record producer, singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and visual artist. Born and raised in London, she moved to New York City at the age of eighteen to study fashion design at Pratt Institute. M.I.A.’s musical style has been described as alternative hip hop and electronica, while often incorporating elements of jazz, punk rock, reggae, techno and South Asian music.

M.I.A.’s debut album Arular was released in 2005; it peaked at number thirty-seven on the Billboard 200 and received widespread critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone praising it as “one of the most exhilarating debuts of the decade.” The album’s success brought her international attention and controversy; she received criticism from various media outlets for her opinions on the Iraq War, Sri Lankan Civil War, and Tamil Tigers.

In 2007, M.I.A.’s second album Kala was released to critical acclaim; it debuted at number eighteen on the Billboard 200 and peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Kala was nominated for five Grammy Awards: Best Electronic/Dance Album; Best Dance Recording for “Paper Planes”; Best Rap Song for “Paper Planes”; Best Short Form Music Video for “Born Free”; and Record of the Year for “Paper Planes”.

In 2010, M.I.A.’s third album Maya was released; it debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and received positive reviews from music critics who praised its production values but criticized its lyrical content. Maya was nominated for three Grammy Awards: Best Electronic/Dance Album; Best Dance Recording for “XXXO”; and Record of the Year for “XXXO”. In 2013, M.I.A.’s fourth album Matangi was released to positive reviews by music critics; it debuted at number 23 on Billboard 200 chart in America and peaked at number nine on the UK Albums Chart selling 19,865 copies in its first week in UK alone certified Silver by BPI .

On 5 February 2016 MIA released a new single titled ‘Borders’ addressing the global refugee crisis FREE upon registration to her new website treasurethisdaydotcom This track is included on her fifth studio album AIM which included collaborations with Skrillex Diplo & Blaqstarr The album was released on 9 September 2016 to critical acclaim & commercial success , reaching No 4 in both US & UK charts

The Knife

The Knife is a Swedish electronic music duo formed in 1999. The group consists of siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer, who together also run the record company Rabid Records. The Knife’s musical style draws from a wide range of influences and is primarily electronic. Their songs are often adorned with kalimba, synthesizers, and drum machines, as well as Karin’s ethereal, high-pitched vocals.

The duo gained initial notoriety for their 2003 debut album Deep Cuts, which was certified platinum in their home country of Sweden. They reached an international audience with their second album Silent Shout (2006), an experimental pop record that was acclaimed by critics and nominated for a Grammy Award. The Knife disbanded in 2014 after releasing their fifth studio album Shaking the Habitual (2013), but they have since reunited to tour the album worldwide.

Robyn

Robyn is a Swedish singer, songwriter and record producer. She followed this up with a series of successful albums, including Body Talk Pt. 1 (2010), Body Talk Pt. 2 (2011) and Body Talk (2010). Robyn is known for her innovative approach to dance music, blending elements of pop, R&B and techno to create a sound that is uniquely her own. In recent years, she has collaborated with artists such as Jamie xx, Röyksopp and Mr. Ghana.

Grimes

Grimes is the stage name of Claire Elise Boucher (born March 17, 1988), a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and visual artist. Boucher released her debut album, Geidi Primes, in 2010 and her second album Halfaxa in 2011. To date, she has released four studio albums and one EP. Her music has been described as a combination of synth-pop, dream pop and electronic music. Grimes is also known for her unusual visuals and stage presence. In 2015, she was nominated for the Juno Award for Artist of the Year.
