Introduction

“Uptown Funk” is a song recorded by British record producer Mark Ronson featuring American singer and rapper Bruno Mars, for Ronson’s fourth studio album, Uptown Special (2015). RCA Records released the song as the album’s lead single on 10 November 2014. Jeff Bhasker assisted the artists in co-writing and co-producing the track, with additional writing from Philip Lawrence. About the Alto Saxophone

The alto saxophone is a member of the saxophone family of woodwind instruments invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s, and patented in 1846. It is smaller than the tenor and baritone saxophones, making it the highest-pitched member of the family. The player blows air through a single-reed mouthpiece to produce sound. Alto saxophones are commonly used in jazz, rock, blues and pop bands.

The History of the Alto Saxophone

The alto saxophone is a member of the saxophone family of woodwind instruments invented by Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax in 1841. The alto sax is considered a Transposing Instrument, meaning that when playing a C scale, the alto sounds as written an octave below that pitch. The lowest note on an alto is written as a low C, but sounds an octave below middle C.

The earliest examples of the alto were built in Antwerp, Belgium in 1846. These instruments were originally made out of brass with a conical bore and missing the low B-flat key found on modern altos. In 1866, the German companyBuffet Crampon began producing altos with a cylindrical bore which produced a brighter sound than the earlier conical instruments.

The Different Types of Alto Saxophone
