The American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist is an award presented annually at the American Music Awards. The award was first presented to LL Cool J in 1993. It was initially called the American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist, but was renamed to American Music Award for Favorite Male Rap/Hip Hop Artist in 2002. The award was again renamed in 2011 to American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist.
History

The award was first presented to Eminem in 2010, and he has won it three times. Drake is the only other artist to have won the award more than once, winning it in 2013 and 2015.

History
The American Music Award for Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist was first presented to LL Cool J at the 28th American Music Awards in 2001. In 2003 and 2004, the award was not presented due to a tie between 50 Cent and Jay-Z, respectively. Rappers Nelly and Outkast were the next recipients of the award in 2005 and 2006. The award was not given out in 2007, but was presented to Lil Wayne in 2008. T-Pain became the first artist to win the award two years in a row when he won it again in 2009.Nicki Minaj became the first female rapper to win the award in 2010. Wiz Khalifa won the award in 2012 and 2013. Iggy Azalea became the second female rapper to win the award in 2014.
In 2015 and 2016, no award was presented due to a tie between Kendrick Lamar and Fetty Wap, respectively. Chance the Rapper became the third hip hop artist to win back-to-back AMAs when he won again in 2017. Cardi B became only the second female rapper to win when she triumphed in 2018; Minaj had previously won in 2010.
