Introduction

This electronic dance music mix 2014 provides an overview of the best electronic dance music that was popular in 2014. It includes a variety of genres, such as house, techno, dubstep, and trance.

Different Types of Electronic Dance Music

Electronic dance music has exploded in popularity over the past few years. From festivals to clubs, this genre of music has taken over. But what exactly is electronic dance music? In this article, we will explore the different types of electronic dance music and what makes each one unique.

Techno

Techno is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the late 1980s. It is characterized by a repetitive 4/4 beat and often has a fast tempo. Techno is one of the most popular genres of electronic dance music and is often played at nightclubs, festivals, and raves.

House

House is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the 1980s in Chicago, United States. It was originally inspired by Disco, Funk and soul music. House music is characterized by a steady four-on-the-floor beat and often features a piano or synthesizer riff.

The earliest form of house music was developed in the mid-1980s by DJs who were influenced by Disco, Funk and soul music. These DJs began to experiment with different ways of mixing these genres together. They would often play one record for a few minutes, then stop it and play another record over the top of it. This technique is known as sampling.

House music quickly became popular in nightclubs and soon spread to other parts of the world, particularly Europe. In the early 1990s, house music began to experience a resurgence in popularity, culminating in the international success of hits such as ” Pump Up The Jam” by Technotronic and ” Insomnia” by Faithless.

Trance

Trance is a genre of electronic music that developed in the 1990s. It is generally characterized by a tempo of between 130 and 160 BPM, repeating melodic phrases and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track. Although trance is a genre of its own, it frequently incorporates elements of other styles such as techno, house, pop, chill-out, classical music, and film music.

Trance is usually produced for use by disc jockeys (DJs) who create seamless selections of tracks by slight adjustments to their tempo, pitch and sometimes the order of their tracks. A typical trance track builds up over time, starting with a simple melody or loop and gradually adding more layers of sound. These layers build up to a point where they become too much for the listener to take in all at once, creating a feeling of euphoria. The genre takes its name from this “trance” state; one oftentimes hears stories from people who have been moved to tears or ecstasy while listening to trance music.

The earliest examples of trance can be found in the 1980s electronic dance music styles of new wave and synth-pop. House music producers such as Interface and Sven Vath also began experimenting with similar sounds in the early 1990s; Vath’s tracks “Accident in Paradise” (1991) and “The Harvest” (1992) are often cited as being among the first examples of trance. In 1994, German DJ Robert Miles released “Children”, which became one of the best-selling singles ever released in Europe; its success helped bring trance into the mainstream in the mid-’90s. By the end of the decade, Trance was firmly established as one of electronic dance music’s most popular genres.

Drum and Bass

Drum and bass (also written as “drum ‘n’ bass” or “drum & bass”; commonly abbreviated to “D&B”, “DnB” or simply “D’n’B”) is a type of electronic dance music that originated in rave and jungle scenes in England during the early 1990s. The style is often characterized by fast breakbeats (typically between 150–180 beats per minute), with heavy bass and sub-bass lines. Drum and bass incorporates a number of styles and influences, including techno, house, acid house, hip hop, reggae and jazz.

The popularity of drum and bass at its commercial peak ran parallel to several other related dance styles in the late 1990s and early 2000s including big beat and hard trance. By the mid-2000s, the popularity of drum and bass declined in line with several other dance music genres; however it continues to influence a wide range of other music genres such as grime, trap and dubstep.
