A list of the best psychedelic rock albums of 2017.

Introduction

Psychedelic rock, also referred to as psych rock or garage rock, is a style of music that was popularized in the 1960s. This genre is known for its use of distorted guitars, colorful sound effects, and trippy lyrics. While psychedelic rock initially fell out of favor in the 1970s, it has seen a resurgence in recent years. Here are some of the best psychedelic rock albums of 2017.

Best Psychedelic Rock of 2017

2017 was a banner year forPsychedelic Rockwith several incredible releases. Below are my favorite albums of the year in order.

The Growlers – Hung at Heart

The Growlers – Hung at Heart
With their unique blend of beach goth and psychedelic rock, The Growlers have managed to create a sound that is entirely their own. On their latest album, Hung at Heart, they explore themes of love and loss with a level of honesty and vulnerability that is rarely seen in rock music today.

Opening track “Someday” sets the tone for the rest of the album with its catchy melodies and haunting lyrics. The Growlers continue to impress with tracks like “Going Gets Tuff” and “One Million Lovers,” both of which showcase the band’s ability to craft catchy hooks that will stay with you long after the song is over.

For fans of: The Beach Boys, The Zombies, The Doors

Thee Oh Sees – Floating Coffin

Released in 2013, “Floating Coffin” is the sixth studio album by Thee Oh Sees. The album was recorded in a variety of different locations, including a studio in Topanga Canyon, California, and was mixed and engineered by Chris Woodhouse.

Thee Oh Sees are known for their high energy live shows, and “Floating Coffin” is no exception. The first track, “I Come From the Mountain”, sets the tone for the rest of the album with its driving drums and melodic guitars. Other highlights include the title track, “Minotaur”, and “Toe Cutter – Thumb Sucker”.

If you’re a fan of psychedelic rock or simply looking for something new to listen to, “Floating Coffin” is well worth checking out.

The Fresh & Onlys – Long Slow Dance

2017 was a great year for psychedelic rock, with a wide variety of artists releasing excellent music in the genre. One of the stand-out albums of the year was The Fresh & Onlys’ ‘Long Slow Dance’.

The album is steeped in ’60s psychedelia, with jangly guitars, swirling organs and dreamy vocal harmonies. The songs are infectious and catchy, and the album as a whole is an absolutely joy to listen to. If you’re a fan of psychedelic rock, or simply looking for a great album to lose yourself in, ‘Long Slow Dance’ is essential listening.

Allah-Las – Worship the Sun

Allah-Las‘ self-titled debut was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2012, a set of hazy, sunny California jangle pop that evoked the best work of the Byrds, the Beach Boys, and Mazzy Star. The group followed that up two years later with 2013’s Worship the Sun, another superb album that found them expanding their sound with a greater reliance on keyboards and longer, more experimental jams. The quartet — singer/guitarist Miles Michaud, guitarist Pedrum Siadatian, bassist Spencer Dunham, and drummer Matthew Correia — have an undeniable chemistry, and their interplay is as organic as it is effortless. Worship the Sun is a richer, more psychedelic album than its predecessor, but it never feels like the band is straying too far from its core sound. The Allah-Las are content to continue perfecting their brand of wistful California pop, and on Worship the Sun they come pretty close to achieving perfection.

White Fence – Cyclops Reap

White Fence’s sixth album, Cyclops Reap, is a masterclass in classic psychedelic pop. The San Francisco-based band, led by Tim Presley, delivers one catchy hook after another, propelling the listener through a kaleidoscopic array of sound and color. From the hypnotic opener “Like That” to the trippy closer “Evil,” Cyclops Reap is an essential listen for any fan of psychedelic rock.

Conclusion

To sum it up, these are the best psychedelic rock albums of 2017.
