In the summer of 1968, tenor saxophonist/vocalist Emilio Castillo met Stephen Kupka, then a 16-year-old baritone saxophonist, who had just graduated from Newark Memorial High School in Newark, California.Castillo had played in bands around the San Francisco Bay Area with his brothers, but he was looking for something different. He and Kupka forged a strong musical bond quickly.

The G-Funk Era

In the early 1990s, a new style of hip hop emerged from the West Coast of the United States. This style was characterized by its use of heavy bass, samples from 1970s funk music, and gangsta rap lyrics.
