History of the Channel Country Music Hall of Fame

The Channel Country Music Hall of Fame will debut in 2022. The brainchild of country music fans Joanne and Bill Meek, the Hall will celebrate the history and contributions of the Channel Country music scene.

The Channel Country music scene is a unique and vital part of Australia’s national identity. It developed in outback Queensland, in the towns and stations of the remoteChannel Country region.

The Channel Country music sound is a distinctive blend of country, folk and blues, with a dash of rockabilly thrown in for good measure. It’s a sound that has been shaped by the tough outback environment, and by the resilient people who live there.

Over the years, the Channel Country music scene has produced some of Australia’s most beloved country artists, including Slim Dusty, Anne Kirkpatrick, Troy Cassar-Daley and Jasmine Rae.

The Meek’s goal is to create a permanent home for the Channel Country music story, and to ensure that this vital part of our musical heritage is never forgotten.
