The song was co-written by Mars, Philip Lawrence, Jeff Bhasker, and Mark Ronson. “Up Town Funk” was released as the lead single from Mars’ second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), on November 10, 2014. The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became Mars’ fourth number-one single on the chart. The song also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and 19 other countries.

Up Town Funk is a song by American rapper and producer Bruno Mars from his second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2014). The song was written by Jeff Bhasker, Mars, Philip Lawrence and Mark Ronson, with additional writing by Nicholas Williams (a.k.a. Trinidad James), and was produced by Ronson, Lawrence and Bhasker. “Up Town Funk” was released as the album’s lead single on November 10, 2014. Jeff Bhasker assisted the artists in co-writing and co-producing the track, with additional writing from Philip Lawrence. “Uptown Funk” received critical acclaim from music critics, who complimented its composition and described it as an “irresistible dance track”. It earned Ronson several best of 2014 lists, topping US Billboard’s Year-End Hot 100 chart. The song won two Grammy Awards for Best Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 58th ceremony. The music video for “Uptown Funk”, directed by Bruno Mars and Cameron Duddy, was shot entirely in black-and-white. Music critics also praised its visual aesthetics. The clip was nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards: Best Male Video, Best Pop Video and Best Collaboration; winning two awards including “Video of the Year”. It features Mars and his band performing choreographed dance routines throughout various locations in Los Angeles during night time. In May 2016, a homemade dance video inspired by “Uptown Funk”, choreographed to its music by students at Lyseth Elementary School in Portland, Maine went viral online; which caught Ronson’s attention who then posted it to his Twitter account lauding their efforts.”
