Brooks & Dunn wrote the song with Ronnie Dunn’s brother-in-law, crude oil trader Junior Brown.In an interview with The Boot, Kix Brooks stated that the idea for the song came from watching a young man working on an oil rig: “Ronnie’s brother-in-law at the time was working out on an oil rig, and we just watched him one day, and he was just this young guy sweating his butt off working on this rig. He got done with his shift, and he got in his pickup truck, and he drove down to a local bar where we were playing.”
