How to Add a Ringtone to Your Phone

Although iPhones come with a decent selection of default ringtones, many people prefer to use a custom ringtone. You can use ringtones that are already on your computer, or you can download them from the Internet. Once you have the ringtone file, you need to add it to your iPhone. This process is different for each version of the iPhone operating system.

Using Ringtone Maker

If you want to make your own ringtones for your iPhone, you can use the built-in ringtone maker in iTunes. This is a quick and easy way to turn any song or audio file into a ringtone. You can choose any part of a song as your ringtone, or even recorded sound bites.

To use the ringtone maker in iTunes:
1. Open iTunes on your computer and find the song or audio file you want to use.
2. Right-click on the song and select Get Info from the pop-up menu.
3. In the window that appears, go to the Options tab.
4. Use the Start and Stop times to select the part of the song you want to use as your ringtone (it can be up to 40 seconds long). Make sure that Stop is greater than Start, otherwise your ringtone will be silent!
5. Click OK when you’re done.
6. Right-click on the song again and select Create AAC Version from the pop-up menu (this will create a copy of the song with just the selected part).
7. Once it’s done converting, right-click on the new AAC version and select Show in Finder (Mac) or Show in Windows Explorer (PC) from the pop-up menu. This will open a new window showing just the AAC version of your song.
8. Right-click on the AAC version of the song and select Rename from the pop-up menu. Change the file extension from .m4a to .m4r
9. Double-click on the .m4r file to add it to your iTunes library as a ringtone
