What was your inspiration for Dorian: A Rock Musical?
Nathan Christopher: We were both very inspired by the book The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. We loved the idea of taking this classic story and giving it a modern twist by setting it to rock music.
How did you go about developing the show?
Michael Weiner: We started by writing a treatment, which is a short summary of the story. Then we started writing songs and developing the characters. We also did a lot of research on Oscar Wilde and the period in which he lived.
What has been the most challenging part of developing Dorian: A Rock Musical?
NC: I think the most challenging part has been trying to stay true to Wilde’s original vision for the story while also making it our own. It’s been a delicate balance, but I think we’ve succeeded in creating something that is both familiar and new at the same time.
