The Psychedelic Furs- “Love My Way”

The Psychedelic Furs are an English rock band founded in 1977. The mainstay of the band is singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim. It was one of the first alternative rock bands to sign to a major label ( Columbia Records ). ThePsychedelic Furs are known for their 1980s hit ” Love My Way .”

ThePsychedelic Furs’ sound has been described as a combination of garage rock , protopunk , and new wave . They achieved moderate success in Australia and Europe but were never able to break through in the United States.

ThePsychedelic Furs released seven studio albums from 1980 to 1991. Their 1981 album, Talk Talk Talk , charted at number 27 in the UK and number 45 in the US, while the single ” Love My Way ” reached number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 .

The band reformed in 2000 and released an eighth studio album, Beautiful Chaos: Greatest Hits Live , followed by a world tour. The Psychedelic Furs have continued to tour since then and released a ninth studio album, Made of Rain , in 2020.

The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid. After signing to independent label Creation Records, they released their first single “Upside Down” in 1984. Their debut album Psychocandy was released to critical acclaim in 1985, and the singles “Just Like Honey”, “Some Candy Talking”, and “Never Understand” became indie chart hits.

The band’s music is characterized by its dark and often cynical lyrical content, as well as its novel approach to rock music composition and sound.

The Velvet Underground’s debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico, is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential rock albums ever made. The album’s lead single, “I’m Waiting for the Man”, is a perfect example of the band’s distinctive sound. Featuring Reed’s signature guitar work and dry vocal delivery, the song is a menacing ode to drug addiction that perfectly captures the dark energy of the band’s music.

In October 1967, “Light My Fire” was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It has sold over three million copies in the United States. In December 2018, the Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and “Light My Fire” was included as one of their five selections for songs that shaped rock and roll.

The Byrds- “Eight Miles High”

The Byrds were an American rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1964. The band underwent multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with frontman Roger McGuinn (known as Jim McGuinn until mid-1967) remaining the sole consistent member. Although they only managed to attain the huge commercial success of contemporaries like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Rolling Stones for a short period in the mid-1960s, the Byrds are today considered by critics to be nearly as influential as those bands. Their signature blend of clear harmony singing and layered guitars draws on both folk music traditions and contemporary pop settings to create their unique sound.

One of the Byrds’ most popular songs is “Eight Miles High”, which was released as a single in March 1966 and peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is known for its innovative use of guitar feedback and for being one of the first psychedelic rock songs.
