What is the Folk Music Wagon?

The Folk Music Wagon is a unique, one-of-a-kind project that brings music to your neighborhood. It is a collaborative effort between the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) and the City of New York Parks & Recreation Department (NYC Parks).

The Folk Music Wagon is a mobile performance stage that brings live music to parks, playgrounds, and other public spaces in Upper Manhattan. The Wagon features local and emerging folk musicians, and offers something for everyone – from families and children, to seniors and young adults.

The Folk Music Wagon is free and open to the public. Concerts are typically one hour long, and are held rain or shine.

How did the Folk Music Wagon start?

The Folk Music Wagon started as a way to bring music to people’s neighborhoods. We wanted to create a mobile folk music venue that could bring live music to people’s doorsteps. We built a stage on a flatbed trailer, outfitted it with sound and lights, and hit the road.

We’ve been hosting shows all over New England for the past few years, and we’ve loved every minute of it. We’ve had some great shows, featuring some amazing musicians. And we’ve met some wonderful people along the way.

What started as a simple idea has become a beloved community institution. The Folk Music Wagon is more than just a mobile stage – it’s a symbol of our commitment to bringing people together through music.

What does the Folk Music Wagon do?

The Folk Music Wagon is a program of the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, which brings professional musicians to low-income senior citizen residences and daycare centers in Philadelphia. The Musical Wagon is a refurbished ice cream truck that has been outfitted with a stage, PA system, and seats for up to 15 people. The Wagon makes weekly visits to 10 locations around the city, bringing music directly to people who might not otherwise have access to it.
