Introduction

The Funky Animated Music Video that Everyone is Talking About is a work of musical and animation genius that has swept the internet. The video, which is only a minute and a half long, tells the story of a very funky chicken who loves to dance. The video features the voice of actor and comedian 100 Cat’, and was written and directed by Greg Smith.

The making of the video

It’s hard to believe that only two people worked on this entire project. “The Funky Animated Music Video that Everyone is Talking About” took approximately three months to complete from start to finish. The entire video was hand-drawn and then scanned into the computer where it was animated frame-by-frame.

The concept

The original idea for the video came from wanting to create something that would be visually stimulating and make people want to dance. The decision to make it an animated music video was an easy one, as it would allow for a lot of creative freedom.

With the concept in mind, the next step was to come up with a story. The storyboards for the video were created with the help of animator Gustavo Torres. Once the storyboards were complete, the animation process could begin.

To animate the video, a total of 24 frames were needed per second. This meant that each second of footage took 24 individual drawing to create. In total, over 5760 drawings were made for the 3 minute and 30 second video.

The drawings were then scanned into a computer and edited together using Adobe After Effects. This is where the majority of the work in terms of colouring, animating and adding effects was done.

Once the animation was complete, it was time to add in the music. The song “Do You Love Me” by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds was chosen as it fit well with both the visuals and the overall mood of the video.

The finished product is a fun and funky animated music video that is sure to get people moving.

The animation

The animation in the video is a combination of 2D and 3D animation. The 2D animation was done using Adobe After Effects and the 3D animation was done using Cinema 4D.

First, the storyboard was created in Photoshop. This was then brought into After Effects where the animatic was created. The animatic is basically a moving storyboard that includes timing and rough sound effects.

Once the animatic was approved, it was time to start animating. The 2D animation was done first, and then the 3D animation was added on top. For the 2D animation, a combination of traditional hand-drawn animation and computer-generated effects were used. For the 3D animation, all of the characters and environments were created in Cinema 4D.

The entire process took about 6 months to complete.
