The Top 5 Gospel Music Association Jobs

The Gospel Music Association is a not-for-profit membership organization that exists to promote the gospel through music and support those who create, perform, and distribute gospel music. The organization has many different types of jobs, but the five most popular are:

Music Director

The Music Director is responsible for the artistic leadership and creative direction of the music program. This includes developing and leading music rehearsals, accompanying the choir on piano or organ, directing special music programs, and playing for worship services. The Music Director also serves as a resource to the pastor and other staff members on musical matters.

Worship Leader

A worship leader is the person who helps to lead a congregation in worship. This can be done through singing, playing an instrument, or both. A worship leader may also be responsible for choosing the songs that will be sung during a service, as well as leading the rehearsals for the worship team.

Music Teacher

The music teacher is responsible for teaching music theory, history, and ear training, as well as applied lessons in instrumental or vocal performance. He or she may also teach sight-reading and improvisation. The music teacher must have a bachelor’s degree in music, and many colleges and universities offer specialties within the field of music education.

The median salary for a music teacher is $50,000.

Music Therapist

Music therapists work in a number of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, mental health facilities, and schools. They use music to help patients recover from or cope with physical, cognitive, social, and emotional problems.

Gospel music therapists use gospel music to help patients heal spiritually as well as physically and emotionally. Gloryland Music Therapy is one organization that trains and certifies Christian music therapists.

Music Minister

The music minister is responsible for the music program at a church. This may include leading the choir, directing musicals, and playing the organ or piano. Music ministers may also be responsible for leading the praise team and worship band. A music minister usually has a degree in music, although some churches will hire a minister with a degree in another field if he or she has experience leading worship.
