John Bonham

John Bonham was born on May 31st, 1948, in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. Bonham began playing drums at the age of five with his father being his first teacher. At the age of fifteen, Bonham joined his first band called The Blue Star Trio and then later joined Crawling King Snakes which featured Robert Plant. In 1968, Bonham, Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones formed the rock band Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin released their debut album in early 1969 and it became an instant success. The group went on to release eight more studio albums over the next decade with Bonham providing the thunderous backbeat that drove Led Zeppelin’s hard-rock sound. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Bonham tragically died on September 25th, 1980, after choking on his own vomit after consuming alcohol. He was only 32 years old at the time of his death.
