Cole World: The Sideline Story debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling more than 218,000 copies in its first week. It was met with critical acclaim from fans and critics alike, and is considered one of the best hip hop albums of 2011.

“Niggas in Paris” – Jay-Z and Kanye West

“Niggas in Paris” is a song by American rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West from their collaboratively-titled studio album Watch the Throne (2011). The song serves as the sixth single from the album and was produced by Hit-Boy and West. It contains a portion of dialogue from The Godfather Part III (1990), spoken by actor Al Pacino in character as Michael Corleone. While recording Watch the Throne, Jay-Z and West wanted to discuss Pacino’s powerful delivery of the line “what are you doing here?” from “Scene 29”, during a creative session with Hit-Boy. The song’s opening microphone drop features comedian Chris Rock, which samples dialogue he had with his own father about Louis Farrakhan and race relations in America.

“Niggas in Paris” peaked at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming Watch the Throne’s fourth top ten single. The song has sold three million digital copies in the United States alone and received various certifications elsewhere. Directed by action film director Hype Williams, a high-budget music video for “Niggas in Paris” was released on October 11, 2011. In an attempt to further promote the single, both Jay-Z andWest performed it at several award ceremonies including BET Awards 2011; at latter event, they performed it nine consecutive times, setting a record for that ceremony. Hiphopdx named the song top rap radio single of 2011 on their annual year end list; Pitchfork Media listed it as one of their top songs of 2011; while MTV included it on their list of best songs of all time at #3150. The video won Best Colin Tilley Directorial Debut at 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, while also being nominated for Best Hip Hop Video and Best Cinematography.

“Otis” – Jay-Z and Kanye West

“Otis” is a song by American hip hop artists Jay-Z and Kanye West, from their joint album Watch the Throne (2011). The song posthumously features American soul singer Otis Redding, whose version of “Try a Little Tenderness” is sampled in the song. The production was handled by West, with additional production from Mike Dean and Hudson Mohawke. The track was released as the album’s second single on July 20, 2011.

The song peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached number two on both the US Billboard Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. Upon its release, the song was widely praised by music critics who praised its sampling of Redding’s original recording.

“Otis” is a song by American hip hop artists Kanye West and Jay-Z, from their first collaborative album Watch the Throne (2011).
