Armin van Buuren was born on December 25, 1976, in Leiden, Netherlands. His father is David van Buuren, who is a writer, and his mother is Irene van Buuren-Koster, who is a delicatessen owner. Armin has two sisters named Erika and Josie as well as two brothers named Ruben and Maarten. When he was five years old, Armin’s father introduced him to music. Armin’s father loved classical music and often took him to the opera. However, it was not until Armin saw the dance movie Groove that he became interested in electronic music.

Armin van Buuren began DJing when he was just 14 years old. His first set was played at a school party. He continued to play at local clubs and events throughout his teenage years. In 1995, Armin released his first track “Blue Fear” under the alias Gaia. The track became an instant hit in the Netherlands and established Armin as a rising star in the trance music scene.

In 1999, Armin van Buuren founded the record label Armada Music. Armada quickly became one of the leading imprints in trance music with a roster of world-renowned DJs and producers including Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, Rank 1, Airwave, Menno de Jong, and many others.

Armin van Buuren has been voted No. 1 in the prestigious DJ Mag Top 100 poll five times, as well as being ranked No. 1 in Mixmag’s Top 100 DJs poll. He is also a five-time recipient of the IDMA Best Trance DJ Award and has been nominated for a Grammy Award.

At the age of 14, van Buuren began sending demos to different electronic music record labels. One of these demos caught the attention of Dutch label Boss Productions, who released Van Buuren’s first single “Blue Fear” in 1995. His first album, Push: The Sound of Deep House, was released in 1997 Juni and was awarded the Gouden Kabouter (Golden Gnome) award for Best Dance Album.
