It is a blend of African-American and Hispanic influences, and is often characterized by its use of Latin percussion instruments. Miami House Music is also known for its use of samples from classic disco and soul records. The best-known Miami House Music tracks were produced by DJ Luke Skyywalker and the group 2 Live Crew.

Defining House Music

So what is house music? House music is a style of electronic dance music (EDM) that originated in Chicago in the 1980s. It was initially created by DJ’s who were looking for a way to extend the tracks they were playing in clubs. Theresulting sound was a mix of disco, soul, and electronic elements, which created a new and unique form of dance music.

Where House Music Comes From

Miami house music is a product of the African-American, Latino and Caribbean communities in Miami, Florida. It is a subgenre of house music that developed in the 1980s and is heavily influenced by disco, hip hop, Latin music and electronica. The sound is typified by its use of repetitive 4/4 beats, synth-heavy loops and samples, as well as its distinctive “Miami bass” sound.

Miami house music emerged from the underground club scene in Miami in the early 1980s. At that time, most clubs in Miami were playing disco music. However, there was a small group of DJs and producers who began to experiment with mixing disco tracks with elements of hip hop, Latin music and electronica. These DJs and producers would play their new hybrid music at local clubs and parties, which gradually gained popularity with other clubgoers.
