The Best of Electric Wizard

Electric Wizard is an English doom metal band from Dorset. The band formed in 1989 and have released seven studio albums, two live albums, three compilation albums and one EP. They are widely considered to be one of the most influential bands in the genre of stoner metal.

Their sound is typicallyheavy and slow-paced, with lyrics focusing on the topics of witchcraft, occultism, horror, and marijuana. electric guitar riffs are often down-tuned to create a heavier and suspenseful sound.

The band’s debut album, entitled _Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls_ was released in 1993. The album was met with critical acclaim and is now considered a landmark album in the genre of stoner metal.

In 1995, the band released their second album _Dopethrone_. The album further solidified the band’s reputation as one of the premier stoner metal bands.

Sleep is an American rock band, formed in San Jose, California in 1990. The band’s original lineup consisted of Al Cisneros on bass and vocals, Chris Hakius on drums, and Tom Choi on guitar. The band was influential in the development of the musical style known as stoner rock or stoner metal.

Sleep’s signature sound is a distortion-heavy melding of Black Sabbath-style doom riffs with punk rock energy and tempo; Erik Davis of Spin magazine has referred to Sleep’s music as “stoner metal’s power trio equivalent of Black Sabbath’s riffs combined with Motörhead’s speed.” Despite the rudimentary production values of their early recordings, the band’s style had a major impact on heavy metal music in the 1990s.

Sleep’s music attracted attention from record labels and fellow musicians alike; they were personally invited by Metallica to perform at the 1992 Lollapalooza festival after only a handful of live performances, and their debut album Sleep’s Holy Mountain was hailed by Kurt Cobain as his favorite album of 1992. However, tensions between members of the band resulted in its breakup in 1998.

After a decade-long hiatus, Sleep reunited in 2009 and released a new album, Dopesmoker, in 2003; althoughhakius retired from music shortly thereafter. In 2018, Cisneros and Choi amicably parted ways with drummer Jason Roeder (of Neurosis) joining them full-time; the trio released The Sciences to critical acclaim later that year.
