What’s a typical day like for you?

I usually start my day by practicing my instruments (I play the guitar, banjo, and fiddle) for a few hours. Then I’ll check my email and social media to see if there are any new opportunities or messages from fans. After that, I might start working on some new music or arranging some old songs. I’ll take a break for lunch and then go for a walk or run before getting back to work.

In the evening, I might have a gig or a rehearsal with my bandmates. If not, I’ll typically spend some time relaxing and enjoying my free time. I might read a book, watch a movie, or catch up with friends and family members.

What is your favorite part of being a folk musician?

I love getting to share my music with others and connecting with people through song. It’s really gratifying to know that my music can bring joy to other people’s lives. I also appreciate the freedom that comes with being a self-employed musician – I can set my own schedule and work from anywhere in the world.

What Karen Kaye Thinks about Folk Music

I asked Karen Kaye, an accomplished folk musician, what she thought about folk music. She told me that to her, folk music is the music of the people – it’s music that has been passed down from generation to generation, often without being written down. It’s music that reflects the values and traditions of a culture.

Folk music is often associated with traditional instruments, such as acoustic guitars and fiddles. But Karen doesn’t think that’s necessarily true. “Folk music can be played on any instrument,” she said. “It’s more about the feel of the music than the instruments.”

Karen has been playing folk music for most of her life. She grew up in a musical family and started playing guitar and singing when she was just a child. She’s been performing professionally for more than 20 years, and she has no plans to stop anytime soon. “I love playing folk music,” she said. “It’s a great way to connect with people and share a part of my culture.”
