The Latin American Music Awards were held last night and there were some good and bad moments. Here are the best and worst moments of the show!

Introduction

It’s that time of year again when the Latin American Music Awards (LAMAs) take over our TV screens and social media feeds. This year’s show was full of stellar performances, surprise wins, and, of course, plenty of fashion.

If you missed it, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with a roundup of the best and worst moments from the show. From Jennifer Lopez’s show-stopping medley to Maluma’s cringe-worthy acceptance speech, here’s everything you need to know about the Latin American Music Awards.

The Best

Best Overall Album: This was a really tough category because there were a lot of great albums this year. Ultimately, we decided that Shakira’s “Sale el Sol” was the best overall album. It’s a great mix of traditional Latin sounds and modern pop, and Shakira’s voice is just incredible.

Album of the Year

The nominations for album of the year were announced today, and we have to say, we were pretty impressed with the selection. Here are the five lucky nominees:

-Shakira, “Sale el Sol”
-Juanes, “Paz”
– Ricardo Arjona, “Independiente”
– Diego Torres, “Victims”
– Calle 13, “Entren Los Que Quieran”

And the winner is… Shakira! We have to say, we’re not really surprised. Her album was amazing and she totally deserved it.

Artist of the Year

It is hard to think of a more deserving artist for the title of Artist of the Year than Shakira. The Colombian singer has had an incredible year, with her album “Sale el Sol” (“The Sun Comes Out”) topping charts around the world and her hit single “La La La (Brazil 2014)” becoming an anthem for the FIFA World Cup. Shakira is also an active philanthropist, working with organizations such as UNICEF and Latin American charities.

Best New Artist

The Latin American Music Awards honor the best and brightest in Latin music, and this year’s event was no exception. Among the many standout performers was Best New Artist winner Maluma, who took home the prize for his work on the album “Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy.” Also nominated in this category were Carlos Vives, J Balvin, Jesse & Joy and Silvestre Dangond.

Best Male Artist

The Latin American Music Awards are an annual award ceremony that honors the best and brightest in Latin American music. This year’s nominees for Best Male Artist were:

-Juanes
-Romeo Santos
-Shakira
-Enrique Iglesias
-Pitbull

And the winner is… Juanes!

Best Female Artist

Jennifer Lopez was the big winner of the night taking home four awards, including best female artist. The other nominees in this category were Shakira, Thalia, Gloria Trevi and Fey.

Best Group

Best Group
It was a tough night for the groups, as many of them seemed to be suffering from technical difficulties. Nevertheless, the night’s best group was unquestionably Calle 13, who won for both Best Urban Performance and Best Urban Song. Their performance of “Latinoamérica” was a tour de force, and their acceptance speeches were both funny and pointed.

Best Song

“Best Song” is a song by American recording artist Lionel Richie. The song was released as the second single from his ninth studio album, Time (1998). It peaked at number 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top 40 in several other countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Best Video

It should come as no surprise that the best video of the night went to Pitbull and Marc Anthony for their collaboration “Rain Over Me.” The fun, summery video perfectly embodied the spirit of the song, and featured cameos from both singers’ daughters. It was a feel-good moment in a night that was otherwise full of surprises.

The Worst

The Latin American Music Awards are an annual recognition of Latin American achievement in the music industry. This year’s awards were handed out on November 9, 2011 in a ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium. The show was hosted by Eva Longoria and Enrique Iglesias and was televised live on the mun2 cable channel.

Worst Album

It was a tough year for music, with a lot of good albums released. However, there were also some that were not so good. Here is a list of the worst albums of 2011.

-“Rebelde” by RBD: This album was a huge disappointment to fans of the Mexican pop group. The album lacked the energy and excitement that made their previous albums so great.
-“148” by Calle 13: This album was a major letdown for fans of the Puerto Rican hip-hop duo. The album was plagued by technical problems and sounded unpolished.
-“Invisible” by Yazmin Lomelin: This album was incredibly boring and failed to capture the imagination of listeners.

Worst Artist

The Latin American Music Awards 2011 were held on October 11 in Miami, and while there were some great moments, there were also some pretty cringeworthy ones. Here are our picks for the best and worst of the night.

Worst Artist: Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez took to the stage to present an award, and we have to say, she looked pretty bad. She was wearing a short, tight dress that showed off her curves, but it just didn’t work. Her hair was pulled back in a severe bun, and she just looked uncomfortable.

Worst Song

It was a night of ups and downs at the Latin American Music Awards. While there were plenty of great musical performances, there were also a few head-scratching moments. In particular, the award for Worst Song of the Year went to an unexpected winner.

The award for Worst Song of the Year went to “El Taxi,” by Cubaton artist Osmani Garcia. The track, which features Pitbull, was roundly panned by critics and fans alike. Garcia’s acceptance speech was met with booing from the audience, and he was quickly escorted off stage by security.

This wasn’t the only controversial moment of the night. The award for Best Male Artist was originally given to Spanish singer Miguel Bose, but it was later revealed that the award had been mistakenly given to Bose instead of Colombian singer J Balvin. Bose gracefully returned the award to Balvin, and all seemed to be forgiven.

All in all, it was an eventful night at the Latin American Music Awards. And while Osmani Garcia may not be too happy about his Worst Song win, at least he can take solace in the fact that he wasn’t the only one to have a controversial moment on stage.

Worst Video

It’s no surprise that the Worst Video would go to a artist who is also nominated for the Worst Album, and that would be Vikki Carr for her “Dos Corazones Un Camino.” It’s not just that the video is cheaply made or that Vikki looks like she’d rather be anywhere else but there, it’s also the fact that the song is just awful.
