Introduction

The Latin American Music Awards (LAMA) is an annual American music award ceremony that recognizes top performing Latin artists in the United States. The awards are presented by the television network Telemundo. The first-ever Latin American Music Awards ceremony was held on October 8, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.

This year’s show will feature a performance by the Latin pop group RBD.

History of the Latin American Music Awards

The Latin American Music Awards (LAMA) is an annual award show that honors the best in Latin American music. It was established in 2016 by the Latin Recording Academy to recognize the contributions of Latin American artists in the United States. The award show is broadcast live on Telemundo.

The first edition of the Latin American Music Awards was held on October 6, 2016, at the Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles, California. The show was hosted by actress Rosario Dawson and featured performances by Ricky Martin, Juanes, and Gloria Trevi, among others.

In 2017, the Latin American Music Awards expanded to include categories for Regional Mexican music and evolved into a two-night event. The first night honored the best in Regional Mexican music, while the second night celebrated the best in Latin pop, rock, urban, and alternative genres. The show continued to be held at Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles and was once again hosted by Rosario Dawson.

The third edition of the Latin American Music Awards took place on October 25, 2018. For the first time, the award show was held atthe Forum in Inglewood, California. It was also broadcast live on both Univision and Telemundo. Previous Winners

The Latin American Music Awards (LAMAS) are an annual award show to recognize excellence in Latin music. The show is produced by Telemundo and airs live on the network. Winners are selected through a process that combines votes from a jury of music experts with tele votes cast by the general public.

The first edition of the LAMAS was held in 2015 and was hosted by actor Mario Lopez. The show featured performances by Ricky Martin, Mana, Gloria Trevi, Jencarlos Canela, and Diego Boneta, among others.

In 2016, the LAMAS expanded to include categories for Regional Mexican music and awarded RBD the prestigious “Best Latin Group” award. That same year, the group also won “Artist of the Year” and “Best Live Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Other past winners of the “Best Latin Group” award include Mana (2015), Jesse & Joy (2017), Camila Cabello (2018), Bad Bunny (2019), and CNCO (2020).

RBD

RBD was a Mexican pop music group formed in 2004, consisting of Aislinn Derbez, Anahí, Alfonso Herrera, Christian Chávez, Christopher von Uckermann and Dulce María. RBD is listed as one of the best-selling Latin music artists with over 20 million albums sold worldwide. The group gained popularity from their breakout hit “Solo Quiero Amarte” off their debut album Rebelde (2004).

RBD has won numerous awards throughout their career including five Latin American Music Awards, five Premios Juventud Awards and one World Music Award.

Conclusion

The Latin American Music Awards were created to recognize the most popular artists in Latin music. The show is broadcast live on Telemundo. This year, the focus was on the Brazilian band RBD. RBD dominated the awards, winning a total of four awards.

RBD was formed in 2004 and released their first album in 2005. The group achieved success with their second album, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Latin chart. RBD has sold over six million albums worldwide and has won numerous awards, including two Latin Grammy Awards.
