This was the first time in ten years that the Latin Music Awards were held in Los Angeles. The last time they were held in Los Angeles was in 1996.

The Latin Music Awards were created to recognize the contributions of Latin musicians to the world of music. The awards are presented in various categories, including pop, rock, Alternative, Salsa, Merengue, and Reggaeton. In addition to the music awards, there are also awards for Latin music videos and for Lifetime Achievement.

This year’s award show was hosted by Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin. Martin is a five-time winner of the Latin Music Award for Male Pop Artist of the Year. He is also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Best Female Artist

It was Shakira’s night at the 2006 Latin Grammy Awards. The Colombian singer took home five awards, including album of the year for “Fijación Oral Vol. 1” and record of the year for “La Tortura.”

Shakira

The 2006 Latin Grammy Awards were held on Thursday November 2, 2006, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. It was the seventh annual Latin Grammy Awards and recognition show honoring Latin music. Shakira was nominated for five awards and won all of them,including Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Shakira also became the first artist to win all three general field categories in the same year.

Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin, who was on-hand to present the award for Best Male Pop Vocal Album, wowed the audience with a four-song performance that included “Tu Recuerdo” (with La Mari of Chambao), as well as his new hits ” Drop It on Me,” ” It’s Alright” and ” I Don’t Care.”

Gloria Estefan

The Miami Sound Machine star is a veteran of the Latin Music Awards, having taken home the top prize — female pop artist of the year — eight times. She’s also won in the hot Latin tracks and tropical/salsa categories. Estefan will be up for three awards this time around: female pop artist, Latin pop album for “90 Millas” and tropical album for “Oye 2006.”
