What is the Gospel?

The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for our sins and rose again, defeated death and sin, and offers us eternal life with God. It is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16).

Definition

The Gospel is the good news about what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. It is the message that we are saved from our sins and given new life in Christ. This new life includes forgiveness, eternal life, and a relationship with God.

History

The word “gospel” comes from the Old English word “godspel” which means “good news.” In the New Testament, the word gospel is used to refer to the good news that Jesus Christ came to save sinners.

The gospel is not just a set of beliefs or ideas; it is good news that changes lives. The gospel is the story of God’s love for sinners. It is the story of how Jesus Christ died in our place so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life.

The gospel is also the message that we are to share with others. We are to share this good news with those who do not know Jesus Christ so that they, too, can be forgiven and have eternal life.

The gospel is Good News!
