The Legacy of Instant Funk

The group known as Instant Funk was one of the most influential disco groups of the 1970s. The band was led by Freeze, a Philadelphia-based producer and musician. Freeze recruited a group of local musicians to form the core of the band, which went on to release a series of successful disco singles.

The band’s biggest hit was “I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl),” which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. The song was an instant classic, and helped to solidify Instant Funk’s place in dance music history.

Following the success of “I Got My Mind Made Up,” Instant Funk released a series of other successful singles, including “Body Work,” “No Stoppin’ (Us from Dancin’),” and “Always Be My Lady.” The band’s popularity began to decline in the early 1980s, but they remain an important part of disco history.
