The first single from the second album was “Don’t Change”, which Musiq co-wrote with Carvin & Ivan. The song peaked at number twenty eight on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. Released in June 2001, the second single “Love” peaked at number sixteen on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart in August 2001. The video for “Love” directed by Lenny Bass featured cameos from Gwen Stefani, Eve, Tamia, and Chris Rock. It centers around a party where an ex-girlfriend of his shows up. He tells her how much he has changed since they broke up and how he is sure that now they are meant to be together again.

Third album

The Early Years is the third album by Music Soul Child, released on May 17, 2001 through Transcontinental Records. The album peaked at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums and at number five on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. “Song Cry” and “The Way You Love Me” were released as singles, with the latter reaching number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

The Later Years

Fourth album

In the fall of 2000, Carroll released her fourth album, The later years. The first single from the album, “Do Your Time”, was a collaboration with rapper methods of mayhem and received heavy airplay on MTV. The second single from the album, “Not That Kinda Girl”, was also a success, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Fifth album

Music Soulchild’s fifth and most recent album, The Best of 17, was released in 2016. The album is a collection of songs that have been remixed and re-recorded from the singer’s previous albums.
