Grunge electronic music duo Purity Ring hails from Edmonton, Canada. The band is composed of Megan James and Corin Roddick. Purity Ring’s unique style combines grunge and pop with elements of electronic and hip-hop music. The band’s debut album, Shrines, was released in 2012 to critical acclaim.

Purity Ring got their start in the Canadian music scene in 2010. The duo met while attending a university in Edmonton. They began making music together after bonding over their shared love of electronic and hip-hop music. Purity Ring’s first releases were a series of EPs that they self-released on the internet. These EPs caught the attention of major record labels, and in 2012, Purity Ring released their debut album Shrines on 4AD Records.

Shrines was an instant critical success, with many critics praising the uniqueness of Purity Ring’s sound. The albumSpawned the hit single “Fineshrine”, which received heavy radio play and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Recording.

Purity Ring has continued to release new music since then, including the 2017 album Another Eternity. The band has also toured extensively, performing at festivals all over the world.

What is their musical style?

Grunge duo, named after the Seattle music scene, are a combination of heavy metal and punk rock with a focus on guitar feedback and distorted sounds. The lyrics are often dark and deal with topics such as social alienation,drug addiction, and suicide.
