The 1975 is an indie rock band from Manchester, England. The band’s members include Matthew Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel. The band’s debut album, The 1975, was released in 2013 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. The band’s second album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It, was released in 2016 and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200.

The Sound

The 1975’s music has been described as “glossy” and “80s-influenced synth pop”.[16][17] Healy has said that the band’s goal is to make “glittery R&B”.[18] The band members have been cited as influences by a variety of artists, with Healy being name-checked as an influence by Harry Styles of One Direction[19] and Tyler Joseph of twenty one pilots.[20] The band’s debut album was compared to the work of Michael Jackson, Prince, INXS, and David Bowie.[21][22][23][24] Regarding the sound of the band’s material, Healy said: “We take inspiration from loadsa stuff.
