New Album Releases

This year has already been full of amazing new gospel music releases, and we’re only a few months in! Here are some of the newest albums that have dropped this year, perfect for filling your summer playlist.

-Kirk Franklin’s Losing My Religion: This long-awaited album from the king of contemporary gospel is finally here, and it does not disappoint. With features from choir powerhouses like Tamela Mann and Tasha Cobbs, as well as a guest appearance from Kirk’s son Caziah, Losing My Religion is sure to be one of the biggest gospel releases of the year.

-Travis Greene’s The Hill: Greene continues to push the envelope with his unique brand of urban gospel on The Hill. The album features appearances from some of the biggest names in contemporary gospel, including Lecrae, Jonathan McReynolds, and Mali Music.

-Deitrick Haddon’s Masterpiece: Haddon returns with his first solo album in over 10 years, and it was definitely worth the wait. Masterpiece is a soulful collection of tracks that are sure to get you moving and inspire you all at the same time.

Grammy Awards

Music lovers rejoice! The Grammy Awards are just around the corner, and with it comes a slew of new gospel music releases. This year’s nominees are an eclectic bunch, ranging from established artists like Kirk Franklin to newcomers like Crystal Aikin. No matter your taste in gospel music, there’s sure to be something for everyone. So without further ado, here are the new gospel music releases for 2016.


The GRAMMY Awards are awarded annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. They are given out in a number of different categories, with the majority being given to pop, rock, and country artists. However, there are also a number of awards given to gospel and Christian music artists as well. Here is a list of some of the biggest winners in the gospel and Christian music categories for 2016:

-Best Gospel Performance/Song: “Beautiful” by Travis Greene
-Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song: “Own It” by Crowder
-Best Gospel Album: Losing My religion by Kirk Franklin
-Best Contemporary Christian Music Album: This Is Not A Test by Tobymac


The nominees for the 2016 Grammy Awards were announced yesterday, and some of gospel music’s biggest names are in the running.

The awards will be handed out on February 15th, and the nominees in the gospel category are:

-Travis Greene, for his album The War Is Over
-Tamela Mann, for her album One Way
-Hezekiah Walker, for his album Azusa: The Next Generation 2
-Kirk Franklin, for his album Losing My Religion
-Jean Baylor and Marcus Baylor, for their album The Journey (Live)

Other nominees in the general categories include Adele, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Drake, and Rihanna.

Billboard Music Awards

The Billboard Music Awards is an annual awards show from Billboard Magazine. The show presents the year’s top 20 songs in various genres, as well as the top10 artists across all genres. In addition to the awards, the show features live performances from some of the year’s top artist. This year’s show will be held on May 22, 2016, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.


The Billboard Music Awards honors some of the biggest names in the music industry. The awards are based on sales data from Nielsen SoundScan and radio information from Nielsen BDS. This year’s winners in the gospel music category are as follows:

· Best Gospel Album: Lecrae, Anomaly
· Best Gospel Artist: Lecrae
· Best Gospel Song: Kirk Franklin, “Love Theory”
· Top Gospel Artist: Lecrae


The nominees for the Billboard Music Awards’ gospel categories have been announced, and once again, Kirk Franklin leads the pack with seven nods. He is nominated for top gospel artist, top gospel album (for “Losing My Religion”), and top gospel song (for “Wanna Be Happy?”), among other awards.

Other nominees include Tamela Mann, Tasha Cobbs, Jonathan McReynolds, and Travis Greene. Greene is up for five awards, including top gospel artist and top gospel album (for “The Hill”).

The awards will be handed out on May 22nd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
