DJ Jazzy Jeff

Frankie Knuckles

Frankie Knuckles, born Francis Nicholls, Jr., in The Bronx, New York on January 18, 1955, was a house music producer and DJ who played an important role in the development of the genre. His career began in the early 1970s when he started working as a DJ at a club called The Gallery in New York City. He soon rose to prominence as one of the most popular DJs in the city.

In 1977, Knuckles moved to Chicago and took up residence at a club called The Warehouse. It was here that he helped to pioneer the sound that would come to be known as house music. He achieved further success in the 1980s and 1990s with a string of hits including “Your Love” and “The Whistle Song.” In 2005, he was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame. Frankie Knuckles died on March 31, 2014 at the age of 59.

David Morales
